These Girls Get Around:
Body Swapping and Skintones
Let me guess... you just LOVE Pullips, but either 1. omg my old-bodied pullip
BROKE!!! or 2. like, I just hate those new bodies, ew!
For whatever reason, you want to swap your Pullip's body. Well, my dear, we're
here to help.
Pullip skintones vary widely, but fall into these general categories:
Pale/Pullip Regular | Flesh/"Normal" tone
A nice super-pale, but not quite white color. The most common skintone for Pullips, most are released in this tone. Similar to Velvet Minuet Blythe. |
A nice natural flesh-tone. Similar to every other company's regular skintone, and all normal Blythes. Only two Pullips have it so far. Possible Magma Heritage exclusive.
Moon, Street, Wind, Bouquet, Noir, etc. | Bianca and Mitzi |
Plus, a lot of oddball tones:
Olive | Tan | Extra Pale | ||
Carol's HEAD ONLY is a very yellow olive tone. Her body isn't. Go figure. | Both Squall and Venus are tanned, but they are both different
shades of tan. Squall is a warmer, tanned brown. Venus is a cooler, natural brown. |
Nomado, for all intents and purposes, is just pale skintone. However, if you compare her closely to the other pale-toned girls, she's extremely bone-white. |
Here's a list of potential body-snatches:
Pale/Pullip Regular | Flesh/"Normal" tone
Honestly, I haven't found any bodies that match well enough to satisfy my tastes. However, the New EB Beauty White has been suggested as potentially matching pale girls, especially the later matte-faced ones. Lesser Matches: |
The Volks Soft Bust EB Beauty in regular tone is a dead-on match for this skintone. Other Volks new EB regular skintone bodies may also match, but the Soft Bust Beauty bodies suit Pullips extremely well, and the soft bust allows you to use all the same clothes. I highly recommend this. A picture of my Mitzi's body-swap. |
Carol (head only) | Venus
It's been suggested that there may be a potential match for this tone with older Volks bodies. | Oh, I know her body is floppy and horrible. Most replacement tan bodies are far too warm toned, though. Sigh. If anyone finds a cool brown (articulated) body, please, tell me. |
Please bear in mind these notes:
Articulated bodies are not going to be as strong as non-articulated bodies. EVER. Joints are going to make for a more posable but more delicate doll. Blythe and Bratz are going to be far more sturdy, because both were initially designed for children's play.
Almost all articulated Japanese 1/6th doll bodies come in the "limbs coming out" variety. Some are stronger, some are weaker, but in generally, the arms/legs/hands/feet ALWAYS come out. The only ones I've heard of otherwise are the Marmit bodies, and they, well, are exactly like the old Pullip bodies, with ball-joints and screws. The fact that their limbs come out is a design feature, not a flaw.
... and no, sadly, the Obitsu bodies don't really match any of the Pullips. Sorry. They match Blythe pretty well, though.
